Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton:
Helping Asylum Seekers to Bay Ridge Community

A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR JUNE 2023

Beloved congregation,

As I stand before you today, I am reminded of the immeasurable blessings that come from gathering as a community of faith. Together, we embark on a journey of spiritual growth, deepening our relationship with God and one another. It is a privilege to be your shepherd, guiding and nurturing you along this path of discovery and transformation.

In a world that often feels fragmented and uncertain, the church stands as a beacon of hope—a sanctuary where weary souls find solace, where burdens are shared, and where the light of God’s love shines brightly. It is within these walls that we come together as a family, bound by a common purpose and united by a shared belief in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Today, I want to remind you of the transformative power of God’s love—a love that knows no bounds and extends to the deepest corners of our hearts. It is a love that embraces us in our brokenness, gently lifting us up and carrying us through the storms of life. It is a love that offers forgiveness, healing, and redemption, no matter how far we may have strayed.

Let us remember that as Christians, we are called to be vessels of this love—a love that is not passive but active, reaching out to the marginalized, the hurting, and the lost. We are called to be instruments of reconciliation, extending a hand of grace and compassion to those who need it most. In a world divided by hatred and strife, our love becomes a powerful force for transformation and unity.

But love alone is not enough. It must be accompanied by action. Our faith compels us to be agents of change in a broken world, to stand up against injustice, and to work towards building a more equitable and compassionate society. Let us not be content with merely speaking about love, but let us embody it in our actions, seeking to make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us also remember the importance of nurturing our own spiritual well-being. In the busyness of our daily routines, it is all too easy to neglect our relationship with God. Yet, it is in these moments of quiet reflection, prayer, and meditation that we find strength, renewal, and clarity of purpose. Let us carve out time in our lives to seek God’s presence, to listen to His voice, and to align our hearts with His divine will.

Dear friends, we are on a journey together—a journey of faith, hope, and love. As we navigate the joys and challenges that lie ahead, let us remember that we are not alone. We have each other, and most importantly, we have the abiding presence of our Heavenly Father. Together, we can overcome any obstacle, weather any storm, and spread the transformative power of God’s love to a world in desperate need.

May we be known as a church that exemplifies love, compassion, and unwavering faith—a community that extends a hand of welcome to all who seek refuge in our midst. Let us continue to grow together, deepen our relationship with God, and live out our calling to be His ambassadors in the world.

May God bless you abundantly, and may His love continue to shine brightly in your lives.

With gratitude and love,

Rev. Juan Carlos Ruiz
